There are two distinct types of Gout that are differentiated by several factors.
The various factors that are used to differentiate Primary and Secondary Gout are:
- Age of the person
- Sex of the person
- Medical Conditions
- Diet that triggers a Gout attack
- How many acute attacks have happened
- Development of Tophi
Tophi is the accumulation of crystallized uric usually present just under the skin. When a Tophus is small, it appears as a mere moveable lump beneath the skin. As it grows big, it can be seen as a painful nodule.
Tophis usually get deposited near the joints that hampers agility and movement. Tophis usually occur 10 years after the onset of Gout. To reduce the Tophis you need to reduce Uric Acid in your bloodstream.

Primary Gout
Primary Gout is most likely to affect men between the ages of 30 and 65. It affects men 10 times as often as women. When it does affect women, it strikes them after menopause.
Acute attacks (very painful) are common. Often a person with Primary Gout will have an average of two acute attacks per year. The primary concern at this stage is to get relief by reducing the joint pain. Use Naturo Gout Care and get back your normal mobility soon.
Usually the cause of excess Uric Acid is unknown. It is believed that the genetic connection is higher for Primary Gout than for Secondary Gout.
Primary Gout can be caused by any of the three factors:
- An impaired clearance of Uric Acid by the kidneys (also termed "underexcreter")
- An increase in production of uric acid (termed "overproducer")
- A combination of both defects
Tophi develops late (stage 4) in Primary Gout. While there are Urate crystals in one or more joints and the urinary tract, (often causing kidney stones), the Tophi that deform the joints and cause the disease to become debilitating, only start forming at an advanced stage.
Secondary Gout
Secondary Gout affects males and females equally. It is more common in those over age 65.
In Secondary Gout, the cause of excess Uric Acid is usually known. Secondary Gout is caused by medications, food items high in Purines (eaten over a lifetime), or certain health conditions.
Since Naturo Gout Care has a two pronged approach - ease joint pain on one hand and detoxify your body on the other, it can help people with Secondary Gout too. Use this holistic remedy to promote healthy joints, without having to suffer from any side effects.
Medications:
Secondary Gout often results from the chronic (long-term) use of Diuretic therapy. Diuretics are sometimes called water pills. Long-term use of Aspirin, Nicotinic Acid (Niacin), Levodopa, or Cyclosporine also cause an increase in Uric Acid.
Foods:
Eating large amounts of foods with high levels of Purines contributes to Secondary Gout.
In general High Purine Foods include: liver, kidney, anchovies, sardines, herring, mackerel, mincemeat, mussels, bacon, codfish, scallops, trout, haddock, veal, venison, goose, bouillon, gravy, scallops, yeast and alcoholic beverages.
The following are Moderate Purine Level Foods: Asparagus, beef, chicken, crab, duck, ham, kidney beans, lentils, lima beans, mushrooms, lobster, oysters, pork, and spinach.
Health Conditions:
Renal impairment and Osteoarthritis are associated with Secondary Gout. Obesity, Hypertension, Hyperlipedemia, and a high alcohol intake are often associated with Secondary Gout as contributing factors.
Crash diets and starvation, Cancer or Cancer treatment, Hypothyroidism or Hyperthyroidism, smoking, Diabetes or Insulin resistance increase the levels of Uric Acid in the bloodstream. Leukemia, Lymphoma, and congestive heart failure also contribute to Secondary Gout.
Even Psoriasis, Anemia, severe illness or injury or prolonged bed rest can contribute to the onset of Secondary Gout. This happens because fluids do not flush out of the body properly.
Tophi develops early in the course of Secondary Gout. In Secondary Gout it is important to Detoxify the body thoroughly and often to get rid of the toxins.
